Jail inmate contracts Hepatitis A

An inmate in the Oconee Detention Center contracted Hepatitis A last week, but Sheriff Mike Crenshaw says precautions have been taken and the remainder of the jail population has been offered vaccinations thru DHEC. Those precautions, Crenshaw says, include testing those who were in proximity to the inmate. A defense lawyer said yesterday in the Oconee courtroom that, out of precaution, she decided to forego a visit to the jail to confer with a client. By yesterday, however, no one else has tested positive for the form of viral hepatitis that is transmitted in food, causing fever and jaundice.
