It may be the cost of living, but people don’t like it

Walhalla utility customers are making known their displeasure this week after opening their water bills.  The city, effective yesterday, raised charges for customers inside and outside the city.  Those increased rates apply to the minimum charge as well as how many gallons are consumed each month.  Walhalla is beginning to raise money for a kitty to help pay for a new treatment plant. And in nearby Toccoa, Georgia and likely all across the PeachState, motorists are bracing for higher pump prices. The State of Georgia’s new transportation funding law converts the current sales tax on gas to an excise tax, which will raise the price of a gallon of gas.  The motor club AAA predicts the exact increase will likely be between six and seven cents a gallon, but the increase could be gradual.  Georgia motorists could see part of that increase simultaneous with the arrival of the next shipment of gas where they fill up.
