Is a game of politics being played in Pickens County?

The chairman of Pickens County Democrats, Richard Byrd, has announced the filing of a complaint with the state election commission and says county Democrats are considering legal options as the result of the resignations of the entire Pickens County election board and staff. Byrd traces the upheaval to the night that votes were counted in his party’s presidential primary and suspects what two of the county’s Republican state lawmakers said that night to the election commissioners created upset which resulted in their eventual resignations. Interviewed yesterday, Byrd admitted he’s perplexed and considers the developments somewhat akin to the nation’s Saturday Night Massacre in 1973 when President Nixon order his attorney general to fire the special prosecutor who was investigating Watergate. “I just don’t understand why there hasn’t been due process for these folks (the former Pickens election officials.)
