Infant surrendered safely under Safe Haven law

AnMed Women’s and Children’s Hospital in Anderson recently accepted an infant surrendered under Daniel’s Law–the Safe Haven for Abandoned Babies Act.  The African-American baby girl was born Saturday and weighed 7 pounds, 1 ounce.  Anderson DSS took custody of the child.  A permanency planning hearing is scheduled at 2 pm Thursday, July 15 at the Anderson County Family Court, 100 S. Main Street, Anderson.  According to South Carolina DSS, a safe abandonment such as the one in Anderson is a perfect time to remind the public that state law provides a safe, legal option to abandonment of babies up to 60 days.
