Indoor pool in place for YMCA opening, perhaps in February

The completion and opening of the Foothills YMCA is still a few months away, but Oconeeans can get in on the ground floor of memberships now. John Derwent, vice president for member services, says by going to the website faymca.org and clicking join and you will see the various options open to both individuals and families. Even though the construction of the new YMCA has moved along, without any major issues, “Y” officials are not holding firm to the projected February 2020 opening date. What’s not visible to the eye from the outside is the swimming pool already in place inside. According to Derwent, it’ll be a six-lane, 25-yard pool of water 3 ½ to 6 feet deep, with lap lanes to allow for swim team practices and meets. Some day those practices are to include the first ever Oconee high school swimming teams.
