In state government, seniority translates to sway

Out of all state senators in South Carolina, Walhalla’s Thomas Alexander now ranks number six in seniority.  And that seniority is conducive when it comes to major roles in how the state’s business is conducted.  Alexander, Republican representing Oconee and parts of Pickens County, announced to the Walhalla Rotary Club yesterday that he’s going to chair a special committee that’s to recommend how the state spends $2 billion of federal money allocated to help South Carolina recover from the economic consequences from the world pandemic.  Alexander told the Rotarians he believes three specific purposes are ideal for spending the money:  broadband, water and sewer, and mental health.  About mental health, Alexander said, it’s clear that the pandemic has had a detrimental effect on the mental health of many young people.
