In jail fight, inmate loses part of ear

Sheriff Mike Crenshaw confirmed this morning that in a fight between two Oconee jail inmates this week one of them bit off a small part of the ear of the other inmate. However, no charges resulted from the altercation. About fights in the jail, Crenshaw said, “Our staff strives to classify inmates when they come in and place them in different cell blocks to avoid problems. Unfortunately, there may be issues between some that we do not know until a problem arises. Having the different cellblocks has allowed us to increase the safety of the facility. When a fight does happen, an inmate loses all privileges and is locked in their cell 23 hours of the day. We are legally required to give them one hour out of the cell which is done on an individual basis.”
