In Cammick’s view, quarry lease a dead duck

The message that Chairwoman Edda Cammick of Oconee County Council has received from the public has been loud and clear. Oconeeans want their county government to hold onto to the rock quarry. As Cammick put it yesterday, it’s the goose that lays the golden egg as an enterprise fund that makes hundreds of thousands of dollars a year for the general treasury. Cammick yesterday said a private company would have to offer “the sun and the moon” before she’d change her position. To her, the quarry and its crusher near Walhalla have sentimental value, and she equated it to a movement at Clemson to annex part of the Hartwell Village Shopping Center into its city. According to what one contractor has told 101.7/WGOG NEWS, should a lease reach a vote the county council will reject it in a 3-2 vote. The council is scheduled to receive legal advice during an executive session next week.
