“Impossible decision, but we have to make it”–Lee

At the top of Monday’s Oconee School Board agenda will be a report from the superintendent on the start of school August 24.  Dr. Michael Thorsland’s report will go to Chairman Jerry Lee and the other four trustees.  If there are any second thoughts about in-classroom instruction or distance learning, they are likely to be expressed during the meeting.  But, by this morning, Chairman Lee told 101.7/WGOG NEWS that he is not aware of any trustee who might want to re-consider re-opening classrooms for those who’ve chosen in-classroom instruction.  “I was reading an article from another school board.  This lady described it about as well as anyone could.  ‘It’s an impossible decision, but we have to make it,” Lee said.  The trustees chairman said the district is implementing all safety protocols from the CDC and DHEC.  He concedes that, if there an outbreak impacts in the schools, the district might have to adjust.
