If you are a city voter, you vote this year

Dan Alexander, the mayor of Seneca, and several other municipally-elected officials across Oconee County face a political decision this month.  They must decide whether they’ll toss their fedora or bonnet into the hotbed of politics and place themselves before the voters.  Announcement is being made that Tuesday, November 2 will be Election Day in Oconee five municipalities.  In Seneca, the office of mayor and four seats on the city council are available; in Walhalla,  three council seats; in Westminster, three council seats; in West Union, two council seats; and in Salem, two council seats.  In all except Salem, the Oconee Board of Voter Registration and Elections will conduct the voting.  Candidate filing for the Seneca, Walhalla, Westminster, and West Union elections opens at noon Monday, August 16 and closes at noon Friday, August 27.  If you’d like to run for any of the offices, you must be a registered voter in Oconee County and live in the municipality in which you’d like to run.  Statements of candidacy should be filed with the county elections office on S. Pine Street, Walhalla.
