If there’s a heaven, the Walhalla Pool must be it

Imagine your days this summer spent laying asphalt or hammering roof shingles. On the whole, you’d likely be happier if you were poolside in Walhalla. The smiles and the laughter on the part of children this afternoon at the Walhalla City Swimming Pool are a testament to beating the heat of 90-degree temperatures. The water looks crystal clear this afternoon at the only remaining municipally-owned swimming pool in Oconee County. The pool operates under a contract with the Foothills YMCA which soon will have its own pool—an aquatic facility that is under construction at the Oconee Memorial Hospital. The Y’s Christle Ross says, “We are seeing approximately 75-100 swimmers daily in the open swim times. Our water exercise classes vary from 12 participants to 31 per class. Local daycares and summer camps are coming daily as well. 101.7/WGOG NEWS this afternoon was able to have a firsthand look at what the fun is all about, courtesy of this summer’s pool director, Halie Patterson.
