Hundreds of hospital workers losing their jobs

More than 300 Prisma health care workers are being told they are losing their jobs. And the Prisma president/CEO blames an environment of smaller reimbursements and more and more patients who are either under-insured or un-insured. The number of those whose jobs are being eliminated is 327, out of a total workforce of more than 30 thousand. Since October, management did away with 200 other jobs thru attrition, vacancies, and consolidation. Prisma is providing severance pay and outplacement services and is offering those affected the chance to apply for open positions across the Prisma organization. The organization includes several hospitals in the Upstate. Today’s announcement states: “Areas affected span the organization, including administrative, corporate and clinical areas across all campuses.” One of those campuses is the Oconee Memorial Hospital.
