Hospital to amp up its doctor training

On the drawing board at Oconee Memorial Hospital is a new building project. With the support of parent organization Greenville Health System, the hospital intends to put up a new building to increase the numbers of doctors to treat future generations. Hunter Kome, chief operating officer of the Oconee Medical Campus, announced last night the new building will be situated between the main hospital and the Cancers Center. At present, Oconee is capable up training as many as five doctors at any one time. With the new building, it will be able to train up to 18. When asked if this will be a large building, Kome told 101.7/WGOG NEWS: “”It will be a substantial building because it’ll have to house, at any given time, 18 doctors who are training and 4-5 faculty members and then the support services they’ll need so far as lab and things like that,” Kome said.
