Home builders make humanitarian gesture

Two Greenville men were killed last month in a home building accident in Pickens County. Last night home builders in Oconee County reached into their pockets to make donations to the families and loved ones of the departed. David Gully, president of the Home Builders Association of Oconee, announced a $1 thousand dollar donation to help with funeral and other expenses for the families of Domingo Diego Nicolas and Sabino Juarez Lopez. 101.7/WGOG NEWS learned that two members of the association committed to matching their association’s donation. The occasion last night was an after-hours event for the association, arranged by the South State Bank. Its bankers were touched by the July 19 tragedy at a new home construction site in the Sunset Community of Pickens County. Nicolas and Lopez lost their lives when, it’s believed, the weather suddenly turned and the force of a micro-burst collapsed a wall to the new home atop them. Making remarks and gratitude on behalf of the victims included South State banker Allen White, home builder company owner Don Snyder, and Mark Whiteman, for whom the house is being built.
