Historic Pendleton home to be auctioned September 24

A near 200-year old home in Pendleton, designed and built by the famous American architect Robert Mills, is headed for the auction block. Auction Services of Anderson will conduct live and online bidding at 6 o’clock Tuesday evening, September 24. Located at 112 W. Queen Street not far from the Village Green, Marshalsea is part of the estate of Mary Lou Nicely Evans. It is steeped in history. With fortress-like brick walls, Marshalsea was the first Anderson County jail. Later it was a boarding school for girls. The home has been in the Evans family since the 1930s and underwent a major renovation in the 1950s. Architect Robert Mills, from Charleston, gained fame for designing and building the Washington Monument and the White House.
