Hilton Head restaurateur runs afoul of state tax office

According to the state Department of Revenue, its agents arrested the owner of Hilton Head Island bar and restaurant today and charged him with one count of operating without a retail license and three counts of failing to file tax returns or pay taxes, or both.  Warrants allege Timothy Singleton’s retail license was revoked two years ago for failure to pay business taxes. They further allege, according to the DOR, that he continued to engage in retail sales, including liquor by the drink from April 2018 to November 2020.  Singleton owns Ruby Lee’s South bar and restaurant.  If you suspect or know of anyone or a business that has committed a state tax crime, you may contact the SCDOR Criminal Investigation and submit a complaint.
