High schoolers temporarily move to virtual

In-class teaching or virtual learning.  It’s a debate nationwide during the most significant COVID surge yet.  A decision has been taken in Oconee County to temporarily send the high schools to virtual learning.  Starting tomorrow, it’s virtual instruction for the high school classes of Seneca, Walhalla, and West-Oak, until  Tuesday next week, the day after the King holiday.  Yesterday’s school district statement reads: “To maintain our goal of keeping as many students in school as possible and to address the staffing shortage, we have made the difficult decision to move all high school students to virtual learning….”  Further the district personnel director, Al LeRoy, said, “Today (Monday), the district was able to fill 51% of staff absences with a substitute.  This left us with 58 vacancies that other school employees are having to cover.”  One thing is not changing:  Athletics will continue to operate as normal.
