High schoolers getting early work experience

A 16-year old student at Anderson’s T-L Hanna High School becomes the first student to attend classes at both his high school and Tri-County Tech, while working part-time at Anderson County’s Arthrex plant.  Starting Monday, Austin Singleton will work part-time at Arthrex as a CNC machine operator youth apprentice.  There are many registered youth apprenticeship programs across the state that combines on-the-job training with job-related education.  However, Tech says its program doesn’t necessarily end when the student graduates from high school.  Instead, the student can continue to work part-time while completing their associate degree at Tri-County. The college is now in discussions with local businesses regarding youth apprenticeships and is developing apprenticeships in partnership with the public school career centers in Oconee, Anderson and Pickens counties.
