Healthy food and better lifestyle effort gets financial boost

Neither a tornado nor the continuing impact of the world pandemic has stopped an Oconee County effort to promote healthy food and lifestyle choices.  A year ago county council members, community leaders and advocates were invited for an Oconee County food summit.  Last week, according to Walhalla Councilwoman Sarai Melendez, the county was one of six in South Carolina to receive a federal grant of $11,700 for Local Food Policy Council Development and Expansion.  The Oconee Food Summit team plans a March 26 and 27 virtual follow-up to last year’s summit.
