Hazel Elrod

Mountain Rest – Hazel Leeoria Wilbanks Elrod, 79, wife of the late Clyde Julion Elrod, passed away Friday, October 13th, 2023 at Prisma Health Cottingham Hospice House surrounded by her loving family.  

 

Born February 27th, 1944, in Oconee County, SC, Hazel was the daughter of the late Carlee and Rose Cobb Wilbanks.  Hazel worked at Jantzen and was known as being a faithful Mama, Nanny and a Prayer Warrior. She was a member of the Open Arms Tabernacle, and enjoyed singing, fishing, football and her greatest joy was cooking for her family and spending time with them.

 

Hazel is survived by her son, Rev. Julian Elrod and wife Dr. Rhonda Finley of Westminster; daughters, Diane Smith and husband Kerry of Walhalla, Angie Chapman and husband Van of Mountain Rest, and Melissa Cromer and the late Bryan of Salem; sisters, Elma Turner, Grace Whittaker, Annie Belle Thompson, Mildred Woodall; and six grandchildren, Britta Johnson (Russell), Kristyn Smith, Mark Smith (Ashley), Jayce Elrod (Mary Beth), Braden Elrod (Ava-Grace),Cameron Cromer (Lorelei); and four great grandchildren, Scarlett Smith, Braelynn Parker, Ryland Johnson, and Ruby Ann Johnson.

 

In addition to her husband and parents, Hazel was predeceased by her brothers Virgil Wilbanks and Roland Wilbanks.

 

A Funeral Service will be held at 1:00 pm, Monday, October 16th, 2023 at Sandifer Funeral Home Chapel with burial to follow at Mountain Rest Baptist Church Cemetery.  The family will receive friends and family from 5:00 pm – 7:00 pm, Sunday, October 15th, 2023, at Sandifer Funeral Home.
