Grisly Oconee murder case to be re-lived on TV

An Oconee County murder in 2017 will be re-told by ID, the Investigation Discovery TV channel in a program this week called “Fatal Vows.” The body of Rebecca Murray Cawthon was found stuffed inside a barrel on Welcome Church Road property near Westminster. Cawthon, 33, had been shot eight times. Her husband, Lee Mikael Cawthon, was sent to prison for 45 years. Among those who are said to have been interviewed for the program are prosecutors David Wagner and Lindsey Simmons and Gentry Hawk who, at the time, worked as an investigator for the Oconee Sheriff’s Office.  According to the ID publicity department, “Spite, greed, backstabbing and betrayal. When marriages fall apart, divorce can turn ugly…or even deadly.” “Fatal Vows” airs at 8 Friday night.
