Greenway money OK’d by the skin of its teeth

The idea of Oconee County connecting to a regional recreation greenway became another issue that divides the county’s fathers.  Funds to survey for the project were approved in a 3 to 2 county council vote last night, with Elliott, Cain, and Davis in favor and Hart and Durham opposed.  A greenway that could extend from the Clemson area to about 15 and a half miles of Oconee roads is seen by Paul Cain and Julian Davis as a project that would improve quality of life, attract younger families, and drive economic development.  But Glenn Hart and Matthew Durham centered their disapproval on their belief that Oconee County already has a great many recreational opportunities, and they argued that the county has more pressing needs for spending money.
