“Green, grassy field” soon to be doctor teaching facility

A field in front of the Oconee Memorial Hospital is being transformed into a facility where the doctors of tomorrow will get their training. Bricks, drywall, and HVAC are some of the components now being added to what will be Prisma Oconee Memorial’s Center for Family Medicine. Besides training future doctors, it’s the hope of Prisma Oconee Memorial that some of its graduating resident physicians will make Oconee County or South Carolina their choice to practice. And Dr. Aaron Zeller, center director, told the Oconee Memorial Holdings Board that make no mistake about it, the physician shortage is real. The 14 thousand square foot building is on schedule to be finished by May.
