Grappling with sewer demands and costs

The policymakers for the Oconee Joint Regional Sewer Authority spent much of their February meeting in discussion of the demands of new commercial development and the costs associated. The big question the cost of complying with DHEC when it comes to wastewater infiltration and overflows from heavy rains. The sewer commissioners want cost estimates for meeting the needs of new commercial accounts, without stretching system capacity. To help get a clearer grasp, there are photographic maps and explanations of new developments and their impact on the system. After the meeting, 101.7/WGOG NEWS asked Chris Eleazer, the JRSA executive director, about potential moratoriums and the phrase “Growth to be limited due to overflows during rain events.” Airing today on 101.7/WGOG NEWS are comments by Eleazer on the capital projects ahead for the JRSA.
