Grabbing a political coattail

Neither President Trump nor U-N Ambassador Haley visited South Cove Park Saturday, but a couple of candidates for governor invoked the names of both Trump and Haley in their effort to win votes. Henry McMaster, who enters the June 12 primary as the sitting governor, said he was proud to have been an early Trump for President supporter and happily accepts his endorsement of McMaster’s efforts to win a full-term as governor. He also claims to have been an early supporter of Haley, a former South Carolina governor. McMaster opponent Catherine Templeton is attaching coattails to Haley, and recalled on Saturday the time two of them sought to weed out state government corruption and resist what she called the good old boy way of doing things. The crowd also heard Saturday from two other candidates for governor: Kevin Bryant and John Warren.
