GM1/OS1 Darrel Birnley

Martin, Georgia – Gunners Mate Petty Officer 1st Class/ Operational Specialist Petty Officer 1st Class Darrel Birnley, 45, husband of Karry Birnley, passed away on Saturday, May 13th, 2023.

 

Born in Jupiter, Florida, Darrel was the son of the Mike Birnley of North Carolina and Donna Bingham Summerall of Florida, and was raised by Diane and John Greer of Jupiter, Florida. He was a graduate of Campbell High School in Smyrna, Georgia, Class of 1997, where he met Karry and later married on May 3rd, 1999. Darrel was an active member of the United States Navy and was stationed at Assault Craft Unit Five, San Diego, California.  He had many military and motorcycle buddies, friends, mentors, “frienmies” or flat out rivals, but he never failed to help you out if you needed it, friend, foe or stranger.

 

Darrel is survived by his parents, and his loving wife of 24 years, Karry Birnley; children, Bryan Birnley, Amber Birnley and Vincent Birnley ; brothers, Jon “Chewy” Wyman (Yvette) of Florida, John “J.J.” Greer Jr. ( Melissa)of Jupiter, Florida, Michael Todd “MT” Birnley of North Carolina; sisters, Deanne “Sissy” Greer of Jupiter, Florida and Brittany Elizabeth Birnley of North Carolina; grandparent, Judi Birnley of Waynesville, North Carolina, Richard “Dick” Bingham Retired OSC USN, of Tennessee.

 

Darrel is preceded in death by grandparents, Ken Birnley and Patricia “Pat” Bingham.

 

A Celebration Of Life Service will be held at 2:00 pm, Friday, June 30th, 2023 at Sandifer Funeral Home Chapel with a private burial to follow at the Georgia National Cemetery in Canton, Georgia, 1080 Scott Hudgens Drive, Canton, GA 30114, with full military honors.
