Gloria Christopherson

Seneca – Gloria Marie Marinetti Christopherson, 99, loving widow of Ivan “Chris” Howard Christopherson, and beloved mother, grandmother and aunt, passed away Sunday, May 28th, 2023 at Cottingham Hospice House.

Born in Rochester, New York, Gloria was the 7th child of 8 and 4th daughter born to Michael and Nancy Marinetti.  After graduation from high school in 1942, Gloria went to live with her sister in Detroit, Michigan and worked for a year at US Rubber supporting the war effort.    Gloria then went back to Rochester and took business classes and worked in payroll for many years at Hickok Company. She always said she loved working with numbers.  In 1959, Gloria moved back to Detroit to work for BOAC (now British Airways).

In 1960, Gloria met her future husband and the love of her life, Chris.  She waited a long time to find the perfect man to be her husband.  They married in 1960.  Gloria along with her family moved to Greenwood, South Carolina in 1967, where they lived for 30 years.  During those years she was mostly a homemaker.  Between 1979 and 1990, Gloria went to work with JC Penney.  In 1997, Gloria and Chris moved to Seneca, SC.

After Chris’s death in 2003, Gloria stayed very active in her church and was a faithful volunteer at the Golden Corner Food Bank.  Nearly every Friday from 2003 until 2015 you could find her at the food bank until she “retired” at the age of 92.

Gloria was widely known for her seamstress and knitting skills.  She also had an engineering problem solving mind and could figure out how to repair almost anything.

Gloria was the last surviving member of her family. In addition to her parents and spouse she is preceded in death by her siblings, Pat, Guido, Larry, Mike, Ann, Yola and Dora.

Gloria leaves behind daughters, Jennifer Whitt and her husband, Steve, Lisa Walton and her husband, Rick; 3 granddaughters, Lindsey Walton, Laura Beebe (Chase), Christina Williams (Nel); and a number of many beloved nieces and nephews.

The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to all the compassionate staff and caregivers at the Cottingham Hospice House, for the care provide to their mother during her final days.

A funeral service will be held 11:00 am, Friday, June 2nd, 2023 at Eternal Shepard Lutheran Church. The family will receive friends following the service at the church and a private family entombment will conclude at Heritage Memorial Gardens Mausoleum.
