Gertrude Leard

Westminster- Gertrude Watkins Leard, 95, widow of the late Willie Ray Leard, passed away, December 3, 2019 at Lila Doyle.

 

Born in the Battlecreek Community of Oconee County, she was the daughter of the late Jesse Erby and Emma Cobb Watkins. Ms. Leard was retired from TRW Greenfield, taught Sunday School and GA’s earlier in life at Clearmont Baptist Church and was a member of Faith Baptist Church. Gertrude was a woman of strong faith, incredibly kind, and a fun-loving person. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends. 

 

Ms. Leard is survived by daughter, Brenda Leard Carter (Harold) of Brasstown; brother, Walter Watkins of Seneca; sisters, Earline Patterson of Westminster, Loma Carter of Moncks Corner; five grandchildren, Jackie Cobb (Steve), Bradley Leard (Karen), Jeff Leard (Missy), Mark Carter, Andrea Carter Pennebaker (Jay); eight great-grandchildren, Chris Cobb, Erica Cobb Ramey, Ashleigh Leard, Jack Pennebaker, Michael Pennebaker, Macie Pennebaker, Abbey Rae Leard, Raegan Leard; three great-great grandchildren, Isaac Ramey, Nora Ramey, and Aaron Ramey.

 

In addition to her husband and parents, Ms. Leard is preceded in death by sons, Carl Leard, Alvin Leard; infant daughter, Barbara Leard; brothers, Ed Watkins, Adger Watkins, Fred Watkins; sisters, Annie Owens and Helen Nix.

 

A Funeral Service will be held 11:00 am, Saturday, December 7, 2019 at the Chapel of Sandifer Funeral Home with burial to follow at First Baptist Memorial Park.  The family will receive friends 6-8 pm, Friday, December 6, 2019 at Sandifer Funeral Home.
