George Owens

 

 

Westminster – George Melvin Owens, 96, of 1084 Westminster Highway, husband of the late Genette Capps Owens of 65 years, passed away Sunday, January 3rd, 2021 at Prisma Cottingham Hospice House.

 

A native of Oconee County, he was the son of the late Patrick Melvin and Dora Belle Edes Owens. George was retired from Ninety-Six Plant #10 where he had worked for 47 years. George served our country during World War II in the United States Army. George was a well decorated Veteran, having earned four Bronze Stars, two Purple Hearts, Good Conduct Medal, EAMET Campaign Medal and a Victory Medal and was a member of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church.

 

George is survived by his son, Glenn Owens and wife Barbara of Seneca; special daughter in law, Diane George; eight grandchildren, twenty great grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren.  Our family would like to give a special thank you to our aunt Earline “The Boss” Fitzgerald.

 

In addition to his parents and his wife, he is preceded in death by a grandson, Chad Owens; brothers, John Owens, Jess Owens, Colie Owens; sisters, Lucille Holbrooks and Lizzy Miller.

 

A Graveside funeral Service will be held 2 pm, Thursday, January 7th, 2021 at Oconee Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 12:00 – 1:30 pm, Thursday, January 7th, 2021, prior to the service at Sandifer Funeral Home.

 

The family is at their respective homes.  In lieu of flowers, memorials in George’s memory may be made to Prisma Health Cottingham Hospice House, C/O GHS Cottingham House Attn: Foundation Office 298 Memorial Drive Seneca, SC 29678.
