George Ellison Lindsey, Jr.

Walhalla, SC — George Ellison Lindsey, Jr., 92, husband of the late Betty Odell Wilbanks, of 323 Stewart Road, Walhalla, passed away Thursday, December 5, 2019, at his daughter’s home.

 

A native of Newry, SC, Mr. Lindsey was the son of the late George Ellison Lindsey, Sr. and Olive Gaines Morgan Lindsey. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army having served during WWII. He attended Clemson University and was a Forest Fire Warden in Oconee County for the South Carolina Forestry Commission. He was a founding member of Tri-City Baptist Church and was a church pianist for years. Mr. Lindsey was known for his wonderful sense of humor and loved witnessing about the Lord to everyone he met.

 

Mr. Lindsey is survived by his daughter: Janet Lindsey O’Brien (The Honorable E. Michael O’Brien) of Greenville, SC; grandchildren: Marla Nottingham (Stuart), Michael O’Brien, Jr. (Paige) and Melanie O’Brien (Garrett); and two great-grandchildren: Madeline Nottingham and Sheamus Nottingham.

 

In addition to his wife and parents, Mr. Lindsey was preceded in death by his brothers: Gene, Carl and Bill Lindsey; and sisters: Mozelle Alexander, Elvira Lindsey, Marian Lindsey and Ellen Bowen.

 

Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 PM, Saturday, December 14, 2019, at Davenport Funeral Home Chapel.

 

The family will receive friends from 1:00-2:00 PM, Saturday, prior to the service, at Davenport Funeral Home.

The family is at their respective homes.
