From Democratic to GOP White House, no change in NRC rules

When America’s voters sent Donald Trump to the White House, in part, the vote was seen to create a White House friendlier to the business community, considering Trump’s business background. But, a spokesman for one federal agency says, there’s been no relaxation of the rules that his agency applies to the nuclear power industry. Roger Hannah, speaks for the NRC’s Atlanta office. Last evening at the World of Energy, he told us: “As far as the nuclear regulation industry is concerned, the regulations that were in place prior to this administration remain in place. It’s a robust set of regulations. We take nuclear safety very seriously.” Hannah and other NRC staff members conducted the annual public presentation yesterday on how Duke’s Oconee Nuclear Station met its safety obligations in 2018.
