From Coffee Road to the Depot–a greenway

By resolution, Walhalla will contract with an engineering firm to develop plans for the city’s first greenway—a strip of undeveloped land for recreation use.  And Mayor Edwards did not hide his enthusiasm for a recreation activity that would parallel the mountain biker course at the Stumphouse Tunnel Park.  The greenway is to run from the Coffee Road to the community depot, a block or two from the downtown business district.  Edwards envisions a greenway comparable to the Travelers Rest greenway and the Doodle Trail at Pickens.  In answer to a question from Councilwoman Melendez, the mayor said he’s confident that the designated engineering firm—Goodwin, Mills, and Caewood—will engage the public for ideas and field requests for the project.  Additional bike paths are                 something that Seneca’s events coordinator, Riley Johnson, stressed as a need when he spoke this week to the Oconee Planning Commission.
