Fred P. Hamilton

Seneca, SC – Fred Palmer Hamilton, 95, husband of Beatrice Tanksley Hamilton, passed away peacefully and surrounded by loved ones on Monday, March 11th, 2024 at Prisma Oconee Memorial Hospital.

Fred was born in Seneca, SC, in the Shiloh Community, and was the son of the late Dana Elbert Hamilton and Ola Lee Palmer Hamilton. He lived a productive and impactful life filled with tremendous love and laughter in Seneca.  A high school graduate of Seneca High School, and later a Clemson College graduate class of 1950 and received his masters from Clemson University.  He was a United States Army Veteran, and was employed for many years at J.P. Stevens.  Fred was an ordained minister having served at High Falls Church of God. He proudly served as a past member of the Seneca Rotary Club, a past member of the American Legion Post 120, past member of the American Association of School Administrators, past member of the International Christian Embassy, Jerusalem, Israel, member of the Anderson-Oconee Alcohol and Drug Commission, served on the Oconee Board of School Trustees. Fred was awarded the Service to Mankind award by the Seneca Sertoma Club in 1982 to add to one of his many accomplishments.   His professional career was quite a joy for him as he served as a classroom teacher at Westminster High School, a classroom teacher and assistant principal at Seneca High School, an area Superintendent of schools, county superintendent of education for the Oconee County School District from 1963-1981, classroom teacher at Hart County High School, and an assistant principal and vocational director at Hart County High School. Fred served five consecutive times to four-year terms as Superintendent of Schools in Oconee County, and was elected Vice-President of South Carolina Association of County Superintendents, was the Secretary of South Carolina Association of School Superintendents, served on the Board of Directors at Lee College for 12 years.   He was a retiree from the education system after having served 56 amazing years. Fred was a member of Impact Church where he served as Founding Member and an Elder.

Surviving are his children, Chris Hamilton and wife, Whitney of Seneca, Tracy Hamilton and wife, Renee of Seneca, Belinda Ross and husband, the Late Lavante of Seneca Aaron Attisso and wife Bella of Seneca, Edem Eguedim and wife Tomah of Seneca; nine grandchildren, Whitney Huskamp (Derrick), Jordan Ross, Taylor Gonzales (Cody), Garyt Holder (Dallie), Cayde Hamilton (Taylor); Emmanuel and Chloe Attisso, Nathan and  Evans Eguedim; three great grandchildren, Peyton Huskamp, Macon Huskamp, and Daley Holder.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Francis Huckabee Rascoe of Murfreesboro, TN; brothers, Elbert “Hines” Hamilton of Aiken, SC, and Dana Ray Hamilton (Jackie) of Winston-Salem, NC, and Harry Hamilton of Seneca.

The family will receive friends on Thursday, March 14th, 2024 at 11:00 am – 1:30 pm, at Trinity Baptist Church in Seneca, SC.  Funeral services will be held on Thursday, March 14th at 2:00 P.M. at Trinity Baptist Church in Seneca, SC, with burial to follow at Oconee Memorial Park.
