Franklin Evatt

Franklin Evatt passed away peacefully early Monday morning on January 1, 2024. He was lovingly known by his family and friends as Frank.

He was born in Newry, South Carolina on July 5, 1935, to Thomas A. Evatt and Isabell Kelly Evatt.

Frank was married to his wife, Gladys, for 69 years. They were lifetime members of Lydia Baptist Church.

Frank worked in the textile industry as a machine fixer and supervisor over spinning and spooling at Abney Mills of Newry and West Point Peppermill. He was an avid fisherman and entered many competitions over the years.

He is survived by his loving wife, Gladys McAlister Evatt, his sister, Martha Stephens of Newry, his daughter, Gail Bond of Boiling Springs, and Cindy Underwood (Rodney) of Greenville, 3 grandchildren, Eric Owens (Leigh) of North Myrtle Beach, Courtney Bond of McDonald, PA and Mistry Horne (Gregg) of Mauldin, a step-granddaughter, Jennifer Anaya of Wilmington, NC and 2 great-grandchildren, Isabelle and Walt Horne of Mauldin. Frank is preceded in death by 4 brothers, Lawrence, Paul, Eugene, and Sam Evatt and 1 sister, Elanor Kelly.

The family will receive friends from 1:00 PM – 2:00 PM on Wednesday, January 10th, 2024, at Lydia Baptist Church (528 Broadway St, Newry, SC 29665) with a service to follow immediately after. Upon conclusion of the service, there will be a graveside committal at Courtney Memorial Cemetery across from Corinth Baptist Church.
