Former textile plant property to go to auction

The property of the former textile plant in Utica will be placed at public auction, at the next county sale at the courthouse. According to a legal ad in The Journal, the property is to be auctioned at 11 o’clock Monday morning, March 2 at the Oconee Courthouse. The property is that of the former J-P Stevens plant which, during the 20th century, was the major employer in the Utica Community adjoining Seneca. The property covers approximately 27 and three-quarter acres along S. 6th Street. According to the terms in the legal ad, the successful bidder March 2 will be required to leave a deposit equal to 5% of the bid.
