For most part, the local electorate stayed home

Official numbers released today by the office of Oconee Elections point to a paltry turnout of voters for Tuesday’s primary runoff elections.  Of all who could have voted in either of the major political parties’ runoff, only 6.5% did, and most of those stayed true to the county’s red color political designation.  A total of 3,582 ballots were cast in Oconee’s Republican runoff for state superintendent; 235 cast ballots in the Democratic runoff for U-S Senate.  Ellen Weaver’s win as GOP nominee for education superintendent was bolstered by a nearly 70.5% Oconee vote. Krystle Matthews was the choice of Oconee Democrats to be Senate nominee by receiving 54%.
