For most part, a “DHEC” requirement going away

A layer of South Carolina bureaucracy is disappearing with the elimination of the required certificate for most healthcare facilities to obtain a “CON” – a certificate of need from “DHEC” before building a new facility, purchasing certain medical equipment, or providing additional medical services.  There are some exceptions, however, as noted by the governor’s office.  Until January 1, 2027, a “CON” will still be required to build a new hospital or add hospital beds.  Nursing home facilities and home health agencies will continue to be required to obtain a “CON.” In an interview airing on 101.7/WGOG NEWS, State Senator Thomas Alexander, Oconee-Pickens Republican, talks about S. 164 which, according to Governor McMaster’s office, plays into the governor’s motto, “South Carolina is open for business.”
