For Casey Bowling, change interim to permanent

It’s already a Happy New Year for Seneca policeman Casey Bowling.  With an announcement today, Bowling has been elevated from interim chief of police to police chief, as the successor to the retired John Covington.  In a joint announcement from Mayor Alexander and Administrator Moulder, Bowling won out “over several qualified candidates” who competed for the job.  A law enforcement source told 101.7/WGOG NEWS that among the top candidates for the position were two high-ranking officers within the county sheriff’s office.  Mayor Alexander indicates he’s confident that Bowling will work hard “to make Seneca the kind of community where we all feel safe and accepted.”  Bowling’s resume includes a bachelor of arts in criminal justice and 22 years in law enforcement, including several with the Oconee Sheriff’s Office.  In the 1990’s he was a standout on some very good Walhalla High baseball teams.  As an American Legion player, he once hit a home run out of a Greer stadium that sailed high into the air and disappeared into the night darkness. For the Seneca police department, his goals include increasing community support, transparency, and integrity.
