Flying club grounded “for good”

The organization of a group of local flying enthusiasts is disbanding, and the reasons are traced to last year’s crash of a small plane near Orlando, Florida that took two lives. According to Eddie Perry’s Facebook page, the Golden Corner Flying Club will close for good this weekend. Perry, the club CEO, posted: “Despite being five years old, two airplanes and twenty-three members, we could not overcome the tragic loss of our Cessna 182 last summer and the even more tragic loss of one of our club members and his passenger.” The crash killed Seneca physician and pilot Stanley Rampey and Rampey’s passenger, Raymond Dodd. Perry says, “Financially, we were in good shape, we even tried to purchase a replacement airplane for the one we lost. That’s when we found that our club insurance was not going to be renewed. We tried everything to purchase insurance even with a number of different companies but because of our loss, they held it against the club. We are saddened by the event of the last year and heartbroken for everyone involved, especially our members. So with this good bye we bid you blue skies and safe flying.”
