First-time offender placed on probation

An elderly Oconeean standing in front of the judge was told that potentially he could have been sentenced to 10 years in prison.  However, the case of sexual exploitation of a minor third degree was the first offense in the life of the defendant, Donald Alfred Slater Jr. A psychiatrist’s evaluation indicated 64-year old Slater is no threat to the community and unlikely to re-offend. As a result yesterday, Judge Lawton McIntosh granted a term of probation for the disabled Marine veteran.  Slater admitted his guilt and told the judge he takes full responsibility for what a prosecutor said was the downloading of a computer file depicting child sex abuse.  One of the sentence conditions is forfeiture of his computer equipment and an admonition from the judge that Slater may never again use the internet to access pornographic material.
