Fatality identified
The fatality in last night’s Oconee County traffic accident near Clemson has been identified as Seneca resident Mark Lane Sanders. A motorcycle driven by Sanders collided with an SUV driven by Morgan Welch of Mount Pleasant. The accident occurred shortly before 6:30 p-m on West Cherry Road at High Point Boulevard. According to the highway patrol, from a stopped position on a private drive Welch attempted a turn onto W. Cherry Road. Motorcyclist Sanders was headed west on W. Cherry. Authorities say Sanders was not wearing a helmet, and Oconee Coroner Karl Addis attributed the death to a head injury from blunt force trauma. Sanders was flown by medical helicopter to a Greenville hospital where he was pronounced dead.
