Family makes generous gift to Oconee Sheriff’s Office

From the sale of property recently, the family of Oconee native William Elrod made enough money available to help treat sheriff’s officers and office employees to a meal.  The Elrod family has an Oconee law enforcement legacy dating back a couple of centuries.  William Elrod, who lived from 1901 to 1980, became deputy sheriff after finishing a career with the FBI in Greenville.  Another member of the family was a U-S Marshal in the 1880s.  Two other members of the family lost their lives in 1909 investigating a series of mailbox tampering.  The family bought food for the sheriff’s personnel which was prepared and served at the law enforcement center over three separate work shifts.  There’s enough money left over from the gift to treat the personnel to another meal this fall.
