Fall Creek calls leads to arrest

This today from the office of the Oconee Sheriff:

“Responding to reckless driving and suspicious
activity complaints at Fall Creek Landing #2 near Salem, the Oconee County Sheriff’s Office
conducted a traffic enforcement operation last Friday night that led to the arrest of a Greenville
County man.
Units from the Uniform Patrol Bureau and the Marine Unit participated in the traffic
enforcement operation. While the operation was underway, the Sheriff’s Office received two
calls in reference to reckless driving before any contact was made with those on scene.
According to evidence obtained during the operation, the Sheriff’s Office observed numerous
vehicles and a large fire ring that had been created in the parking lot. Vehicles were doing
burnouts in the parking area. Deputies also heard gunshots coming from the direction of the
landing prior to arriving on scene.
Deputies approached the landing with the blue lights in their vehicles activated. The Marine
Unit vessel docked at the landing as well with deputies on-board.
Deputies made contact with several vehicles on Fall Creek Church Road. Deputies also
identified two main suspect vehicles, a red Ford Mustang and a silver BMW, and made contact
with the drivers and passengers of both vehicles.
The driver of the Mustang, 22 year old Quavaico Terawan Gaines of Woodruff Road in
Greenville, was arrested and charged with one count each of Driving under Suspension, Reckless
Driving, Operating an Uninsured Vehicle, Improper Use of a Tag and with being a Habitual
Traffic Offender. Gaines was released from the Oconee County Detention Center, this past
Saturday, on a combined $8,005.00 personal recognizance bond.
In regards to the silver BMW, two Greenville County man were issued tickets by Deputies. One
of the men was charged with Reckless Driving and No Proof of Insurance. The other man was
charged with Simple Possession of Marijuana. Both men were not arrested and were released
from the scene.
‘The Oconee County Sheriff’s Office has been conducting some extra patrols around our County
Recreation and Park areas,’ says Oconee County Sheriff Mike Crenshaw. ‘However, the
Sheriff’s Office is requesting that our citizens and visitors to our County Recreation and Park
areas notify us of any reckless driving complaints or any suspicious activity by calling our nonemergency line at 864-638-4111.'”
