Exposing person to HIV alleged in man’s arrest

A man who lives near Walhalla has been arrested and charged with exposing another person to HIV—the virus that attacks a person’s immune system. The Oconee Sheriff’s Office announced the arrest last night of Tyler McKenzie Orr, 24-year old Fairfield Road resident, on warrants charging exposing a person to the HIV virus. Arrest affidavits, signed by investigator Gentry Hawk, allege Orr knowingly engaged in sexual intercourse with the victim, an adult male, with prior knowledge that he was infected with immunodeficiency virus and failed to inform the victim of his infection before engaging in sexual activity. Orr was named in two warrants but, according to the Sheriff’s Office, there is one victim in the case. The investigation continues, and the Sheriff’s Office request if anyone else who may have been exposed to the virus by Tyler Orr to contact its office at 864/638-4111.
