Exceptional drought creates fire danger

South Carolina is in an extended drought that’s creating extreme fire conditions.  This is the word that the U-S Forest Service wants to get out to all South Carolinians so that everyone is diligent in not tossing a lighted cigarette or tries to conduct a controlled burn that could lead to wildfires. Often fires start in the leaf-litter from an abandoned campfire or someone burning debris next to their home.  The periodic rain that some areas have felt is not enough to make a significant change for the better.  To help spread fire awareness, a prevention and education team will fan out at such venues as the Clemson game and the State Fair.
