Evaluation time for Oconee’s top educator

Schools are out for another summer, but the business of public education rolls right along in Oconee County. The county trustees will sit down next week for their June meeting and take on matters left pending after the close of the academic year. One, According to Chairman Jerry Lee, is the annual review of how well Dr. Michael Thorsland is carrying out his duties as district superintendent. The evaluation will grade Thorsland on several performance indicators. And if the trustees are satisfied, in line with past years, Thorsland likely can expect a pay raise or contract extension, or both. Last year’s Thorsland’s base salary was increased to nearly $152 thousand and one year was added to his contract.
