Elinor Williams Swaney

 

Seneca– Amy Elinor Williams Swaney, 91, wife of the late Alton Rudolph Swaney, passed away peacefully, on Wednesday, May 3 at The Cottingham Hospice House surrounded by her loved ones.

 

Born in Seneca, South Carolina, Elinor was the daughter of the late Rev. Ambrose A. and Amy Richardson Williams. She was a loving wife, daughter, mother, and grandmother.  She retired from Oconee Vision Clinic as an office administrator.  She was a long-time member of Hepsibah Baptist Church.  For many years, she delighted in rocking the babies in the church nursery and crocheting blankets for the church prayer shawl ministry.

 

Elinor is survived by her son, Douglas Swaney (Mary); daughter, Sharon Sandifer (Sandy); granddaughter, Amy Pronovost (Todd); 5 great-grandchildren, 6 step-grandchildren, and multiple step great-grandchildren; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Dewey H. Swaney, Jr. and Jewel Swaney; multiple nieces and other family members.

 

Elinor is preceded in death by her husband of 70 years, parents; brother, Elvin A. Williams (Clara); sisters, Lunette W. Gibson (Bill), Imogene W. Gibson (Thaddeus); grandson, Daniel R. Swaney and step-grandson, Douglas Chapman.

 

A funeral service will be held at 2:00 pm, on Saturday, May 6, 2023 at Hepsibah Baptist Church (Seneca) with burial to follow in Hepsibah Baptist Church Cemetery.  The family will receive friends and family from 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm prior to the service at Hepsibah Baptist Church.
