Elevated Youth Services claim headed for settlement

The Oconee County Attorney, David Root, was directed last night to work toward a settlement with an organization that was rebuffed in its attempts to open a treatment home for “sexually problematic youth” near West Union.  The project was rejected last year by county officials amid strong neighbor opposition.  But, last night, the county council returned from an executive session and directed Attorney Root to draft and negotiate a settlement and release, along with authorization for the county administrator to “transfer the necessary funds to resolve the claim.”  Previously, Root declined comment to 101.7/WGOG NEWS on a question of whether the county and Elevated Youth Services were involved in some type of legal action.
