ELBERT LAMAR BAILES, JR.

Walhalla, SC– E. Lamar Bailes, Jr., 88, husband of Rosemary Fort Bailes, of Walhalla, passed away Thursday, July 13, 2023, at Cottingham Hospice House.

 

A native of Anderson, SC, Mr. Bailes was the son of the late Elbert Lamar Bailes, Sr., and Margaret Linley Bailes. Lamar was a civic leader in Walhalla and Oconee County by being on the Board of Directors of the Joint Regional Oconee Sewer Committee, Chairman and longtime member of the Oconee County Council, and former Mayor of the City of Walhalla. He was also a member of the Walhalla Rotary Club and a member and former Elder of Walhalla Presbyterian Church.

 

In addition to his wife, Mr. Bailes is survived by his daughter: Carol Garland (Tony); sisters: Margaret Seigler (Mike) and Annie Brown (Bill); grandchildren: Austin (Rainey), Walt (Rayelle) and Camp Garland; and special family friend: Robert S. Zeigler.

 

In addition to his parents, Mr. Bailes was preceded in death by his son: Tres Bailes.

 

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM, Monday, July 17, 2023, at Walhalla Presbyterian Church, with burial to follow at Oconee Memorial Park.

 

The family will receive friends from 9:00-9:45 AM, Monday, prior to the service, at the church.
