Effort to identify skeletal remains

An attempt will be made to collect DNA to identify the human remains uncovered this week in a section of Seneca near S. Walnut Street. Coroner Karl Addis says a specimen is being sent to the “SLED” laboratory to compare to known missing persons—including two women reported missing this year in Oconee County. The case came to light yesterday when the Seneca police announced that a large bone found by a dog on Asbury Drive on Monday was determined to be a partial remain of a human female. An expanded search yielded more partial remains at a creek near Sherwood Drive and Robinhood Drive. The coroner says preliminary studies indicate the female’s death occurred within the last few months up to approximately one year. The individual’s height is estimated at 5’1” to 5’7” and age between 25 and 45 years.
